Philip Bryden was born in 1964, and raised in Los Angeles, California. He studied photography and cinematography at UCLA, and pursued post-graduate studies under internationally renowned photographers Lou Stoumen, Robert Heinecken, and Peter Reiss.
As well as being a photographer, he also works on various projects in film and television. He has directed short films, winning awards at several international film festivals, and has worked as Director of Photography on numerous documentaries.
His recent photographic work has seen him awarded a Silver Medal in the Prix de la Photographie Paris 2011 for a series of photographs taken in Delhi, India. He has also received Third Prize recognition in the Gala Awards 2nd Annual Black and White Photography Contest.
Philip’s latest work has been photographing street art in various international cities, including Paris, Göteborg, and Los Angeles. Many of these pieces of original work have disappeared since being photographed, either due to urban demolition, erosion, or erasure.
Philip works with medium format film, and each piece is hand-printed in Paris in collaboration with Pascal de Sousa.
